Dream a Little Dream

Well, blog world, this has been quite the week. As many of you know by now there has been a lot of excitement in our family about Kent's big job change. Kent went to work on Monday with a lot on his plate. He had to give a presentation of the things that he is in charge of. His bosses had no idea how much he does. After the meeting was over he went in for what is called an annual review and recieved lots of praise. He was a little anxious as he told his newly appointed boss that he was giving his two week notice. Then came the glitch in the plan, Kent had not been prepared for the amount of money that they were willing to pay to get him to stay. They offered 10 and 1/2 percent pay increase but said that they would negotiate more if it would make it so that he would stay. We anguished over the decision last night until nearly 1 am. There is an entire list of reasons to stay at WECC mostly because of all of the $$$$$, but only one small measley reason to go to Pacificorp. The reason is because when he decided to get into engineering, this is the job that he was dreaming of doing someday. Somebody said to me " I thought the job he has was his dream job." Well for someone that waited 6 years making minumum wage hoping and praying that he could get a job just in his related field, it was his dream job. Insurance, benifits, good pay and being able to provide for his family was a dream. But this is a different kind of dream. What Kent does now is hypothetical simulations of the interconnected power system, what he will be doing is helping to plan and put into action actual projects for the power system. Another source of pride is that this is the company that his dad worked for and it is almost too good to be true. So I am proud of Kent that he chose his dreams over money!! Money doesn't make you happy.
